Leaving Your House To Go Travelling

Deciding To Go Travelling Longterm

Have you ever wanted to try living life as a nomad? Wanted to go travelling without a care in the world? But you have responsibilities and you need to leave behind those responsibilities. The biggest thing that you own is your home. Have you thought about what to do with your house when you go travelling?

Here are some tips to help you make up your mind and choose the travel life that you want.

If You Rent Your House

You will need to give your landlord or landlady enough notice to say you wish to move out. It is easier to move out if you only rent your home because you can simply walk away at the end of your lease. You don’t need to think about selling up and finding a buyer.

If your trip doesn’t start as soon as you finish your lease, you might need to find somewhere short-term to live. Unless your landlord lets you stay on a little longer until your trip date.

If you have possessions that you don’t want to sell or get rid of, you need to think about storing them. This is a downside of renting as you cannot keep them at the house, whilst you are away. Hire a man with a van who can take your stuff to a storage unit. There it will be kept safe until you return home and take it back.

The only problem with renting is that you will have nowhere to live upon your return to the UK.

Renting Out The House That You Own

If you are travelling for a while or you are maybe moving abroad for work. you will want to keep your house for your return. If this is the case, look at renting it out. You will get money to pay for the mortgage as well as a bit extra for the upkeep of the house.

The best people to rent your house to are the people who you know. They are the ones you can trust. With a housing shortage at the moment, you might find someone you know who is willing to rent from you. This cuts out all estate agent fees and other additional costs.

If you cannot find someone you know to rent the house, then you will need to turn to a rental agency. These people can be pricey. But they will deal with all of the problems that will arise in the house.

Start getting creative when you are looking for someone to rent your house. Reach out to your friend’s friends your family. Use social media to get the word out there. Often when a house for rent is advertised on FB, it is snapped up straight away. If you offer a completely furnished house and you may be able to get more money than you initially thought because they will not need to furnish it. Plus you won’t have to worry about storing all your items too, which will save you some money.

Selling Your House

If you have no plans to return to your current home, then selling is the absolute final decision when it comes to your home. If you are planning on selling up and not returning, then you are going to need as much money as possible. So planning is essential when it comes to selling. You want to make as much money as you can. It will take a few months to sort things out and you will need to sell EVERYTHING. You can tale memories travelling but you cannot take possessions. Sell stuff on FB, eBay and in garage sales.

Every penny helps. So if anything needs doing to your house, get it fixed to make more money. Although this is the longest way to sort your house out before you travel, it will give you more time to make your plans.
