Go Exploring Poland With Interrail This Year

Exploring Poland

Today I wanted to talk about the exhilarating adventure of an Interrail journey. Going through the captivating landscapes and enchanting cities of Poland. From the moment you step onto the train, you can feel the excitement building up inside you. Knowing that countless hidden gems await you to find them. Let’s have fun exploring Poland by rail.

It is easier to fly into Poland because if you were to take the train across Europe, it is a long journey. And it can involve a lot of train changes and night travel. But at the same time, it can be a great experience for you. Are you ready to go exploring Poland? I wanted to share a great itinerary for you to get as much out of the country as you can.

Warsaw has a couple of airports that you can fly into. Chopin Airport (WAW) is the main airport for Warsaw. It is 10 km away from Warsaw and can be reached by bus. Modlin Airport (WMI) is 40 km away from Warsaw and it is the airport that budget airlines fly into. When you book with a budget airline, make sure you check which airport it goes to. You can get an airport shuttle from the airport to the centre of Warsaw.

Day 1: Warsaw – Where History Unfolds And You Start Exploring Poland

As the train approached the bustling capital of Poland, Warsaw welcomed us with open arms. The city effortlessly combines its rich history with modernity. From the reconstructed Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to the pulsating city centre, every step felt like walking through time. The Royal Castle, a symbol of Poland’s resilience, left a profound impression on me.

Day 2: Krakow – A Tapestry of Culture

Krakow, the cultural heart of Poland, charmed us with its vibrant energy and artistic ambience. Wandering through the enchanting streets of the Old Town, we were transported back to medieval times. The majestic Wawel Castle, perched atop a hill, offered breathtaking views of the city. And who could resist indulging in traditional Polish pierogi at a local eatery?

Day 3: Zakopane – Nature’s Wonderland

Venturing south to Zakopane, a mountain paradise, the verdant Tatra National Park greeted us with open arms. Hiking enthusiasts, prepare to be amazed! The rugged trails, cascading waterfalls, and awe-inspiring vistas make Zakopane a haven for nature lovers. Don’t miss the opportunity to try “oscypek,” a delicious smoked cheese delicacy.

Day 4: Gdansk – A Maritime Legacy

Boarding the train to Gdansk, we found ourselves in a city where history and the sea intertwine. The historic port city offers a unique blend of medieval architecture and maritime heritage. Strolling along the Long Market and experiencing the impressive Neptune Fountain was an absolute delight.

Wroclaw, often called the “Venice of Poland” due to its numerous canals and bridges, delighted us with its quirky charm. The whimsical gnomes scattered around the city added a touch of playfulness to its cobblestone streets. The Market Square, pulsating with life, offered a chance to savour some traditional Polish sweets.

Day 6: Poznan – Where Past Meets Present

Our journey led us to Poznan, a city exuding a blend of history and modernity. The iconic Old Market Square stood as the vibrant heart of the city, filled with splendid architecture and buzzing cafes.
