Travelling as a family is one of life’s greatest adventures—full of laughter, chaos, and memories you’ll cherish forever. But let’s be honest: between packing for everyone and making sure you have everything you need, beauty routines can fall to the bottom of the list. As a mum who’s spent years juggling family trips, mental health, and the occasional dash of lipstick, I know how tricky it can be to keep everyone feeling fresh and confident on the go. That’s why I’m sharing my favourite beauty routine whilst travelling with families—so you can look and feel your best, wherever your adventures take you. And now that Tilly is at the age where she wants to take beauty products, the hacks are more important.
Packing Smart: Multi-Tasking Essentials
When you’re travelling, every inch of suitcase space counts. The secret? Multi-use products that work for the whole family. Think gentle, fragrance-free cleansers that mum, dad, and teens can all use, or a moisturiser with SPF that doubles as sun protection and a daily hydrator. Solid shampoo bars are a game-changer—no spills, no fuss, and they last for ages. I also love tinted lip balms, which add a pop of colour and keep lips soft (plus, teens love them for a subtle, age-appropriate touch).
For little ones with sensitive skin, stick to your favourite brands. Travel-sized bottles of their usual shampoo and body wash can help avoid holiday rashes or reactions. To save money, buy empty travel bottles and fill them with products at home. And don’t forget a mini first-aid kit with plasters, antiseptic wipes, and a soothing cream for those inevitable bumps and scrapes! We take a first aid kit on our travels, and Tilly is 15 now!

Quick and Easy Routines for Busy Mornings
Let’s face it: family mornings on holiday aren’t always picture-perfect. Someone’s lost a shoe, someone else is refusing to eat breakfast, and you’re running late for the day’s adventure. That’s why I swear by five-minute beauty routines. A splash of water, a swipe of micellar cleanser, a dab of moisturiser, and a quick brush-through with dry shampoo can work wonders. For teens, keep it simple—gentle face wash, a light moisturiser, and maybe a touch of mascara or tinted moisturiser if they want it. We use Superdrug facial wipes, they are great to wipe your face throughout the day too.
Don’t underestimate the power of a good hairbrush and a pack of hair ties. Messy buns, plaits, or ponytails are quick fixes that work for both mums and kids (and they hide a multitude of travel sins!). It doesn’t matter how bad your hair looks on holiday because nobody knows you.
New Climates And Your Beauty Routine Whilst Travelling
Travelling often means exposing your skin and hair to new climates. Think about dry aeroplane cabins, humid cities, or chilly mountain air. My top tip? Hydration, inside and out. Bring a reusable water bottle for everyone and remind the kids (and yourself!) to sip regularly. For your skin, a light facial mist or hydrating spray is brilliant for a mid-day refresh, especially after a long train ride or flight.
Switch up your products if you’re heading somewhere particularly hot or cold. In sunny destinations, a broad-spectrum SPF is non-negotiable, and after-sun gel is a lifesaver for soothing pink noses and cheeks. For winter trips, a richer moisturiser and a nourishing lip balm will keep dry patches at bay.

Beauty for Teens: Confidence and Care
Travelling can be a big deal for teens, especially if they’re conscious of their appearance or experimenting with new beauty routines. Encourage them to pack their small beauty kit—think cleanser, moisturiser, sunscreen, and a couple of fun extras like a lip gloss or face mask. Let them experiment, but remind them that less is often more (especially when you’re on the move).
Most importantly, use travel as a chance to talk about body confidence and self-care. Remind your teens that beauty isn’t about perfection. It’s about feeling good, being healthy, and enjoying new experiences together.
Self-Care Moments for Parents
It’s easy to put yourself last when you’re travelling with kids, but a little self-care goes a long way. Pack a mini pamper kit for yourself: a favourite face mask, a roll-on essential oil, or a travel-sized hand cream. Take five minutes in the evening, once the kids are asleep, to unwind and recharge.
If you’re travelling with a partner, take turns giving each other a break. Maybe one of you takes the kids for a walk while the other enjoys a quiet cup of tea and a quick skincare routine. These small moments can make all the difference to your mood and energy.
Discovering A Local Beauty Routine Whilst Travelling
One of my favourite things about travelling is discovering local beauty traditions and products. Whether it’s a French pharmacy gem, a handmade soap from a market in Italy, or a Japanese sheet mask. These little finds make lovely souvenirs, and they’re a fun way to involve the whole family in trying something new. Let your kids pick out a fun bath bomb or a new hair accessory, and make it part of your travel memories. Who knows, you might discover a new family favourite!
Beauty on the road doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. With a few smart products, simple routines, and a focus on confidence and self-care, your family can look and feel great wherever you go. Remember, the best travel beauty comes from laughter, adventure, and the memories you make together—so embrace the chaos, snap those family selfies, and enjoy every moment.
